Baby, baby, baby!

Finally getting to updates on my last two projects! Interestingly, I was not motivated to do much knitting during my six weeks of bedrest. I really only got back to it during the last couple of weeks. I think my lack of enthusiasm was due to dilemmas with both projects.

This blanket I call the "Sunshine Baby Blanket" the pattern is the Pinwheel Baby Blanket. I was hoping to have enough of my Dream in Color Classy yarn to do the "sun ray" border, but I came up short. I finally decided to use some Natura Sensational yarn from my stash. I'm actually very pleased with the result!



The Ribbed Baby Jacket was an easy and fun knit. But, once again I ran out of stash yarn and had to stop short of finishing the pattern. So the jacket does not fully close, thus is more of a cardigan. It is OK, but I would have liked to have more closure! The color is also off in this picture for some reason. It is actually more green.



I am done with baby knitting for the time being. I am really excited about the Noro Scarf I am knitting for hubby! One Raveler described knitting it like being on crack, and she's right - watching the beautiful color changes is totally addicting. And hubby likes it! Pictures to come... I will have to make more of these...

I wish I had the energy to really discuss these projects. Just not enough hours in the day. I hope I can keep up this blog - but it doesn't look promising. I am still posting on Ravelry, and that might have to do for the time being.

First Weaving

My resolution for last year's New Year was to learn weaving, since my Mom gave a loom last Christmas. This is what I have been working on for the past few months. Back in September, I participated in a small group workshop that was a sort of intro to weaving. I decided to make a scarf for my Mom's Christmas present. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of choosing a yarn that was too thick, and frizzed out too easily. So it was a terrible chore to weave with the yarn. It is fine to choose a thicker yarn for the weft, but the warp must be thin and manageable. Lesson learned.










The finished product, only a mother could love. She might use it as a table runner. Or hang it on her fridge.

Wonderful Wallaby

Just had to post a not-so-perfect-pic of Alden's Wallaby. He's worn it for many cool summer evenings, but I never have the camera with me. I will be sure to have him model it for me this Fall. I really enjoyed making this. It is the largest (successful) sweater I have made to date. I made it to fit a size 4, so that he can get a lot of use out of it over the next couple years. I'll post more on this later...

Adventures in Lace

Branching Out was a really fun gift to make for my MIL, Sandy! It took lots of concentration, however, as lace patterns usually do. It knit up fairly quick, and took only one skein of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool. It was wonderful practice and very satisfying to watch the beautiful "branches" unfold. Hope you like it, Mom!

Slouchy Hat and Fingerless Gloves!

It has been forever since my last posting! I finished Fetching last month and already wearing them everywhere. I added an extra cable over my long fingers. I do think that I still have to block one glove, as the top is not as straight as I would like it to be. The pattern was very fast and easy, so I will probably make another pair soon.

I just finished the Slouchy Copy Cat Hat. It is also very easy, I just hit a knitting slump and only knit on the weekends, if I had the time. Amber's visit inspired me to finally bind it off and wear it! Thanks, Aaaaaaay.

Presents Revealed!

Liana wasn't available today for a model shoot, so I just have this pic of me wearing her arm warmers - I'll hopefully get a picture of her soon! I really enjoyed making these, and want to make a pair for myself. Here is the pattern.

My other Sis was a great model for her Mini-Clapotis! I love that the Clapotis pattern is so versatile. I used an extra skein of bamboo yarn from my Clapotis.

I used two skeins of Filatura Di Crosa Zara Plus to make this super warm and soft skull hat for my Dad. My son wouldn't leave his "Bapa's" side for the majority of our visit!

My poor mother willingly modeled for me, even though she was sick. Her Ribs and Ruffles Chunky Scarf is made of buttery soft baby alpaca. Only one skein and a super fast knit!

I was afraid I had gone crazy not only knitting for my family this Christmas -- but also knitting exactly what they requested! I now feel that it was easy and fun because I gave myself plenty of time. I hope to do the same next year! Rachel has already requested a pair of arm warmers just like Liana's...
